Collagen Induction To Revitalize Your Skin In New Jersey

Starting in our 20s, we lose a small percentage of collagen—the protein that gives skin its flexible structure—each year. Topical products may improve the skin’s appearance a bit, but you need to rebuild collagen to make the skin stronger. Skin needling or collagen induction therapy, better known as microneedling at New Jersey’s The Peer Group, is one way of restoring a younger-looking appearance and addressing a wide range of common skin issues. This treatment increases the production of the building blocks of healthy skin by creating controlled injuries below the surface, provoking the body to respond by building new tissue. Various forms of microneedling have been used in the skincare industry for decades, with the treatment improving over time to become more effective and comfortable.

What is Microneedling?

Microneedling is an anti-aging treatment that supports the regeneration of skin tissue. This minimally invasive technique targets many types of skin concerns, including acne, hair loss on the scalp, hyperpigmentation, enlarged pores, loss of skin elasticity, scars, stretch marks, sun damage, fine lines, and wrinkles.

Procedure

Microneedling works by creating microscopic pinpricks in the outer layer of skin by puncturing the surface with tiny, sterilized needles between 0.5 and 2.5 millimeters in diameter. These needles are attached to an automated pen-like device, which is moved over the skin to create small columns that prompt a wound-healing response. While some people might be squeamish about the idea of needles, the points don’t go any deeper than the outer surface layer of the skin, and topical numbing cream is applied prior to the procedure to address any discomfort.

A session lasts anywhere from 10 to 20 minutes on average. Afterward, cream or serum may be applied to the skin to supercharge the results. Since the process creates small channels in the skin for a short time, active skin care ingredients can penetrate and be absorbed into the deeper layers of skin more effectively in the days after a session.

Recovery

There’s generally little to no discomfort involved in this treatment since a numbing cream is applied beforehand to reduce sensation. Recovery ranges from just a few hours to days, depending on a patient’s unique reaction. Mild skin irritation, redness, and bleeding are normal side effects that may occur for a few days after the treatment.

Results

The results from microneedling appear gradually, as it takes time for the cellular renewal process to occur. The skin typically looks more radiant and feels very soft within a few hours after a session. New collagen and elastin are formed within a few weeks, and the skin becomes plumper. Results last for several weeks. Patients may need multiple sessions for optimal results.

Costs

During your consultation, we will work with you to determine the best skin care method for your unique skin concerns and budget. The cost varies depending on the extent of the treatment, how many sessions the patient will need, and other details.

Other Skin Rejuvenation Treatments

Microneedling isn’t the only nonsurgical option for improving skin tone and texture. It can be used on its own or combined with other aesthetic skin care treatments available at The Peer Group. More options include dermaplaning to restore softer, cleaner skin by removing peach fuzz and dead skin, microdermabrasion for deeply exfoliating the skin’s surface, chemical peels for removing the skin’s outer damaged layer, and HydraFacial® and DiamondGlow® that keep skin hydrated and nourished. Dermal fillers are available for patients who want to minimize facial wrinkles and address some contour changes, while neuromodulators help to smooth muscle-related facial lines.
